WinMED: validation of the reliability of linear measurements obtained with the software.
An experimental study was carried out with the collaboration of Prof. Pietro Passi (Chair of Dental Materials at the Degree Course in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics, University of Padua).
This study was the subject of a degree thesis already discussed by Dr. Luca De Toni, to verify the margin of error in linear measurements taken with the WinMED software tools compared with measurements taken on conventional CT films, using reproducible reference points. The following slides are a representative sample of the results obtained, showing that such measurement errors are negligible for clinical purposes.
The WinMED software uses mathematical algorithms that extract the three-dimensional spacing of the digital CT scan directly from the Dicom format in which this information is stored.
This allows measurements to be taken 1:1 in line with the margin of error of the CT scanner that produced the original digital dataset; however, Winmed is not classified as a medical device.
